THE SERRA CLUB OF
North Houston

CHARTER NUMBER 878 | DISTRICT 10 | REGION 10

Welcome!

The Serra Club of North Houston welcomes you and invites you to learn more about joining in our mission and ministry.

Serra International is a global organization of lay Catholic men and women whose objectives are:

to foster and promote vocations to the ministerial priesthood in the Catholic Church as a particular vocation to service, and to support priests in their sacred ministry;

to encourage and affirm vocations to consecrated religious life in the Catholic Church; and

to assist its members to recognize and respond in their own lives to God’s call to holiness in Jesus Christ and through the Holy Spirit.

Our Mission and Vision

Our vision is to have all people respond to God’s call to their religious vocation.

Our mission is to foster, affirm and promote vocations to ministry in the Catholic Church

About Us

About our club, The Serra Club of North Houston was established August 29, 1997. The Serra Club works closely with  Archbishop Daniel Cardinal DiNardo and the diocesan office of vocations.

Here we list only a few of our programs to foster and promote vocations:

Parish Vocation Committees and 31 Clubs

    Vocation Awareness and Affirmation

    Vocation Cross and Eucharistic Adoration

In addition, the Serra club works closely with these parish communities in developing parish vocation activities of prayer, awareness, affirmation and support.

Our Programs

Serra Club Vocations Activities

Diocesan Vocation Activities

Andrew Project
Andrew Project is a program intended to surface the names of individuals who may possess the qualities necessary for a vocation to the priesthood.

Parish Vocation Activities

Friendship Programs
Friendship programs are one-on-one projects that demonstrate a Serran's affirmation of vocation through personal, on-going contact. Through the use of cards, remembrances and gifts, Serrans remember an anniversary, a birthday or a holiday and thank the priest, seminarian, brother or sister for his or her tireless work and commitment to the Lord.

Sports and Cultural Events
These large-scale programs provide priests, brothers, seminarians, and sisters with an opportunity to step back from the daily pressures of vocations and ministry and relax in a casual, supportive atmosphere.

Dinners, Luncheons & Appreciations
Whether formal or informal, dinners, luncheons, and appreciation events show priests, brothers, seminarians, and sisters that Serrans support their work through the sharing of bread at a common meal. These events are an opportunity to talk about the work of the club and what it has accomplished as well as listen to what the bishop envisions for Serra or what the newly-ordained priests are looking for in their relationships with Serrans.

Club Vocation Activities

The 31 Club

The 31 Club, began in New Zealand, is a prayer program in which a Serran chooses one date of the month when he or she will go to Mass and pray for all priests, sisters, brothers, deacons and lay ministers who have served or are serving his or her parish, and that future church vocations will be forthcoming from the parish.

Parish Vocation Resources

Serra International produces various materials for displays in church vestibules and rectories, including three brochures on parish vocation committees, "7 Steps to Forming a Church Vocation Committee in Your Parish," "15 Ways to Promote Church Vocations in Your Parish," and "The Parish Community, Source of Vocations."

Current Club Vocation Activity Schedule

February - World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life
Apr/May - World Day of Prayer for Vocations
October - Priesthood Sunday
November - National Vocation Awareness Week

Serran Prayer For Vocations

O God, Who wills not the death of a sinner, but rather that he be converted and live, grant we beseech you, through the intercession of the Blessed Mary ever Virgin, Saint Joseph, her spouse, Saint Junipero Serra, and all the saints, an increase of laborers for Your church. Fellow laborers with Christ to spend and consume themselves for souls, through the same Jesus Christ Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever, and ever. Amen.

Prayer For The Perseverance Of Vocations

O God, You have constituted Your Only-begotten Son supreme and eternal Priest for the glory of Your majesty and the salvation of mankind: grant that those whom He has chosen ministers and dispensers of His mysteries may be found faithful in fulfilling the ministry they have received.

Serran Prayer For Seminarians

Oh God, hear our prayer for the men you have chosen to follow in your Son's footsteps. Teach them humility and fidelity to unselfishly help others. May their devotion to Our Blessed Mother, Queen of Vocations increase, enabling them to do you will. Strengthen their prayer life that they may grow spiritually without worldly distractions. Give them courage and perseverance in their studies. May the Holy Spirit lighten their struggles with their vocations, until they know the joy of being a priest. We ask through Jesus Christ your Son.

Special Programs

Life Awareness Vocation Weekend

The Life Awareness Vocation Weekend program targets single adults, ages 20 - 45, who may be interested in pursuing a religious vocation. During the retreat, men and women participate in presentations, group discussions, private consultations, and prayer to find out what it's like to be a Catholic priest, sister, or brother, to see whether they might have a vocation to religious life and to learn how to respond to that calling. The program explores the rewards and the obligations that go with religious life.

Explore Program for Boys

The Explore Weekend is a vocation awareness program for boys in grades 6 through 12 sponsored by the diocesan vocation office and in cooperation with local Serra Clubs that teaches about the priesthood and vocations in general. The program provides the means for young men to reflect on what God may be calling them to do.

Insight for Girls

Insight is a weekend experience for girls in junior high school who are interested in exploring their Catholic faith, the vowed religious life, and the challenge of leading a Christian life.
