The Serra Club of Southeast Kansas City, MO welcomes you and invites you to learn more about joining in our mission and ministry.
Serra International is a global organization of lay Catholic men and women whose objectives are: to foster and promote vocations to the ministerial priesthood in the Catholic Church as a particular vocation to service, and to support priests in their sacred ministry; to encourage and affirm vocations to consecrated religious life in the Catholic Church; and to assist its members to recognize and respond in their own lives to God’s call to holiness in Jesus Christ and through the Holy Spirit.

About Us

About the Serra Club of Southeast Kansas City, MO was established October 5th, 1992. The Serra Club works closely with Bishop Robert Finn and Rev. Richard Rocha, Diocesan Vocation Director and Sister Connie Boulch, FSC the Diocesan Director of the Office for Consecrated Life.

VP Vocation, Joe Smith coordinates club member’s work with parish communities to develop parish vocation activities of prayer, awareness, affirmation and help create a more positive culture for Church vocations:

1. Holy Hours with Adoration for Church vocations in many parishes
2. Parish based prayer programs for Church vocations - 31 Club, Traveling Crucifix
3. Church - vocation awareness programs for parish school, School of Religion, and families World Day for Consecrated Life (WDCL), World Day of Prayer for Vocations (WDPV), Priesthood Sunday and National Vocation Awareness Week (NVAW). In addition, the Serra club members work closely with parish communities in developing parish vocation activities of prayer, awareness, affirmation and help create a more positive culture for Church vocations:

Our members provide support for the following list of programs that are designed to foster and promote Church vocations for Catholic youth and young adults through parish and diocesan based activities:

1. Diocesan 5th Grade Vocations Day
2. Companion Camp for 6th, 7th, 8th grade boys at Conception Seminary
3. Leadership Camp for 6th, 7th, 8th grade girls and Spirit Camp for girls hosted by
women’s religious communities
4. Annual Mass and Dinner during Christmas Season for Seminarians and their families,
the Bishop and Serrans. Each seminarian receives a financial gift from the Serra
Clubs.

Meetings

Our Serra club meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings at the Coronation of Our Lady Parish, 13000 Bennington AVE, Grandview, MO 64130. We would enjoy the opportunity to have you join us. Please feel free to contact our Serra Club by email at serrasekc@comcast.net.

We have three types of meetings:

1)General Membership Meetings twice a month.
Serra Club Meeting: 2nd Tuesday: Coronation of Our Lady Parish Time: 6:15 p.m.
Serra Club Meeting: 4th Tuesday: Coronation of Our Lady Parish Time: 6:15 p.m.
2)
Board of Trustees Meetings monthly on the 3rd Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
3) Annual Regional Conference, Summer National Council Annual and Mid-year Council Board and leadership development/planning meeting, International Conventions are variously scheduled and members are notified well in advance.

Our Programs

Serra Club Vocations Committee Supports:

Diocesan Vocation Activities

•    5th Grade Vocation Days offered annually in February bring over 70 boys and girls at Archbishop O’Hara High School to introduce them a variety of Church vocations opportunities and to the bishop, or the teachers and chaperons and staff. The Knights of Columbus provide food for the youth participants.

•    Encounter God’s Call – a program for men 18 to 35 offered by Conception Seminary College to those who to -- want know more to college seminary life and are discerning service to the Church.

•    Come and See – a program for women 18 to 35 offered by women’s religious communities to introduce the inquirers to consecrated life in service to the Church.

Many of the Vocation activities promoted each year are recommended by the USA Council for Serra:

•    World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life – February
•    World Day of Prayer for Vocations – 4th Sunday of Easter
•    Priesthood Sunday – last Sunday of October
•    National Vocation Awareness Week - 1st Weekend of November
•    Traveling Crucifix Program
•    31 Club-prayer for Church Vocations
•    Deacon’s Picnic, Sister’s Picnic
•    Blisters for Sisters Walk

Serra Club Internal Programs - Club meetings
Catholic adult faith formation programs for our members and guests are presented for growth in knowledge and understanding of the Faith and Church teachings. Beth Tilling, VP Programs, schedules a wide variety of presentations for Club meetings.

Serra Club’s in our diocese work together
Priest and Seminarian Appreciation Day is a joint effort of Missouri and Kansas Serra Clubs and Celebrate Our Religious Enthusiastically, Inc. held on the 3rd Monday in September at an area golf club/course and nearby parish. Blisters for Sisters is another joint effort of Missouri and Kansas Serra Clubs to gather women religious, Serrans and Catholic families to celebrate women religious and share a fundraising Walk-a-thon, Mass and a wonderful meal. Each Sister receives a financial gift and other gift items. The participating religious communities receive financial support.

•    Our Serra Club invites men and women in the Southeast area of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, MO parishes to participate in our mission and ministry.

•    Serrans are caring and compassionate individuals who are good listeners, articulate speakers, and loving, enthusiastic Catholics.

•    A small Christian Community is what we are. 

•    Church Vocation work is what we do.

Membership Benefits

VP Membership, Homer Radford, and the Membership Committees invite Catholic lay men and women in the area we serve to consider becoming involved. Together we are able to increase our support and service to priests, sisters, brothers, permanent deacons, or full-time lay minister

1. Feel a closer affiliation to the Pontiff and Vatican because Serra International is aggregated to the Vatican 2. Expand your perspective of the universality of the church 3. Build and strengthen personal friendships with many priests, deacons, brothers, and sisters in our diocese 4. Deepen friendships with fellow Catholics in your diocese and across America
5. Stronger personal spiritual growth (i.e., mountain top experiences through prayer and action)
6. Personal involvement as a teammate that delivers vocation actions to your PVM (Parish Vocation Ministry)
7. Build friendships with the seminarians and novices discerning God’s plan about their future serving the people of God as priests and sisters and brothers.
8. Share the joy of fostering & affirming vocations to the priesthood and religious life (e.g., attending ordination and profession of vows with good friends, receiving USAC & SI publications, etc)
9. Learn more about and become connected to different Catholic religious communities & lay organizations
